HERA-B AND ZEUS EXPERIMENTS IN DESY (GERMANY)

MEPhI department no. 40 collaborators introduced some ATLAS-related developments into international programs and experiments. This work was led by prof. B. Dolgoshein.

Our group proposed and built Transition Radiation Detector and Forward Tracking Detector for HERA-B and ZEUS experiment, respectively. Thin-walled proportional chambers and radiator built for ATLAS experiment provide a basis for these detectors.

MEPhI had to leave the collaboration after two years of research (in 1998) due to the lack of funding from Russian Federation.

Nevertheless, the chambers and TR radiator developed by MEPhI collaborators are main operating elements of TRD for AMS.

Possible application of these designs in the NICA project

Prof. V. Peshekhonov’s group proposed a central tracking detector for the NICA project based on thin-walled proportional chambers.

Department no. 40 takes part in this development in the context of prototypes testing on test beams, consultations and discussions.
